About Us
Established in 1888, the West Haven Fire Department serves residents of the city’s Center District. Focused not just on fire prevention and suppression but all facets of public safety, our department came to be with the organization of Engine & Hose Company 1 on November 18, 1888.
In addition to fire suppression, we are also highly involved in rendering emergency medical care to our residents. With the introduction of the paramedic program in 1981, we are all certified as either EMTs or Paramedics and thus are able to respond to a wide range of medical incidents with timeliness and treat those in need of aid with precision.
Currently, our fleet consists of two engines, two rescues, a truck, and two marine units. With two stations located within the district at 366 Elm Street and 99 Meloy Road respectively, we are strategically placed and equipped to respond to calls for service not just in the Center District but anywhere in the City of West Haven where we may be needed.
