The West Haven Fire Department is proud to announce the newest member of the department, Danny the Fire Dog. Danny is a 18-month-old Berna doodle and will serve as the department’s Station Support Dog.
Danny was obtained at no cost from K9’s for Warriors, a non-profit based in Florida that works with Veterans and First Responders to provide training to dogs for service and station use.
Station support dogs provide firefighters relief from the stresses and trauma associated with their duties; which often includes graphic, dangerous and emotional situations encountered while serving the public.
In addition to helping around the firehouse and giving tours, Danny has various duties around West Haven such as visiting schools and businesses to highlight the jobs firefighters perform, responding to traumatic incidents in the community to provide therapeutic aid and providing comfort to other first responders in the region.
If you’re interested in learning more about Danny and would like him to visit your school or business or would like to donate for his wellbeing, please contact us at
